This St John Ambulance first aid course will provide you with the skills to manage emergency first aid situations, including managing the unconscious casualty, performing CPR, controlling bleeding and managing other life threatening situations. It is suitable to both people in workplaces and members of the public who want to be able to manage an emergency first aid situation. Emergency First Aid covers the material in the first half of the Provide First Aid Course.
Certificate:
On successful completion of the course you will be issued a Certificate which is a statement of attainment in:

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support

St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every three years and resuscitation skills are renewed (HLTAID001/HLTAID007 ) every 12 months.

Course Outline:

This course covers the following:

• How to manage a First Aid Scenario
• An unconscious breathing person
• An unconscious non breathing person which includes CPR and use of an AED
• Choking
• Drowning
• Shock
• Wounds and bleeding
• Burns
• Chest pain
• Anaphylaxis
• Asthma

Assessment is through a combination of practical first aid activities and a written test paper. You will be required to demonstrate ADULT CPR on a manikin on the floor.
